To install Starry Night Pro, insert the Starry Night Pro CD into the CD-ROM drive. On the Macintosh, just drag the "Starry Night Pro" folder from the CD to your hard drive. On Windows, a window should pop up automatically. Click the "Install Starry Night Pro" option in this window. If no window pops up automatically, click the "Start" button on your desktop. Then choose "Run" and click the "Browse" button in the window that appears. This will open a window showing the files on your computer. In the field marked "Look in", make sure that the CD drive (labelled "Starry Night (D:)) is selected. A list of files and folders on the CD should now be shown. Double-click on the file named "Setup.exe" and then click the "OK" button. Follow the instructions that appear onscreen to install Starry Night on your computer.

No. Starry Night Pro will be installed as a completely new program, and you can choose to keep the other version of Starry Night on your computer or remove it.

This usually occurs if you have other applications or utilities running at the same time you run the installer. You should close all other applications, disable any anti-virus software utilities, and then try to run the installer again. Another possible culprit is the Microsoft IntelliPoint Wheel. To disable this during installation, press the Ctrl-Alt-Delete keys simultaneously. This will bring up a list of the tasks running on your computer. Click on the program "mswheel", and then click the "End Task" button.

If you still have problems, you can try to perform a "manual install" of Starry Night Pro. Insert the Starry Night Pro CD into your computer. Click the Start button on your desktop and choose Programs->Windows Explorer or Programs->Accessories->Windows Explorer. This opens Windows Explorer and the left side of the new window should display a list of the different drives on your computer. Double-click on the CD drive (this probably reads D: Starry Night). Doing this should display a list of the subfolders on the Starry Night Pro CD. There should be a folder entitled simply "Starry Night Pro". Right-click the mouse on this folder. This should bring up a menu. Choose "Copy" from the menu.

Now we need to paste the copied folder into the correct place. The left side of Windows Explorer should still show a list of the drives on your computer. Double-click on your hard drive (probably called the C drive). This will list the subfolders on the C drive. There should be a folder called "Program Files". Right-click the mouse on this folder and choose "Paste" from the menu that pops up. This will paste the Starry Night Pro folder inside this file.

Now we need to place a shortcut to Starry Night on the desktop. Double-click on the "Program Files" folder. This will bring up a list of subfolders, and there should now be one called Starry Night Pro. Double-click on this folder. The RIGHT side of Windows Explorer should show the files and folders which are inside the Starry Night Pro folder. There should be a file called "starrynight.exe" which is listed as an "application file". Right-click on this file and choose "Create shortcut". This creates a new file called "Shortcut to starrynight.exe" in the same folder. Click and drag this file from Windows Explorer onto your desktop. This will place the shortcut on your desktop and you can double-click it to run Starry Night.

The name of the application file is "starrynight.exe" and it is in the "Starry Night Pro" folder on your hard drive. On Windows, you can run the program by clicking the "Start" button on your desktop, then choosing "Programs | Starry Night Pro".

This is a bug in the installer. If you wish to install the complete Starry Night program, including the Hubble star data files, follow these steps:

1) Install Starry Night and choose the "Typical Install" option.
2) Copy each of the four data files in the "Hubble" folder on the CD and paste them into the "Starry Night Pro\SN\Starry Night Pro Data" folder on your hard drive. You cannot simply copy the "Hubble" folder and paste inside the "Starry Night Pro Data" folder; you need to copy each individual file. Once you have followed these steps, you will have performed a full install of Starry Night Pro.
