Installing LiveSKy on Macs

LiveSky needs to know which web browser and email program you prefer. LiveSky does this using the Internet Config System, a standard system that is used by many Macintosh applications, such as Netscape's Navigator and Microsoft's Internet Explorer.

The nice thing about Internet Config is that you should only have to set things like your email address, signature, favorite browser once. Then any application you run on your computer can go to one universal location for these Internet preferences.

Internet Config will be installed when you install Starry Night 2.1 onto your hard drive. If Internet Config is already installed, then you might not have to do anything further!

Setting Up Internet Config

This is a very brief introduction to Internet Config. All you really need to do to make sure that LiveSky will work for you is the following:

1. Run the application Internet Config by double clicking on it. You will find it in the Starry Night Deluxe folder.

2. You should see something like the following:

3. Under the extension menu is the command "Install Extension" If the command is dimmed out and unavailable, it means that you have to install the extension.

4. Click on the Helpers button in Internet Config (not in the picture above) in order to tell LiveSky what your favorite browser and email application is.

5. To set your browser in the Helpers window of Internet Config, click on the http line and then hit the change button to pick your browser.

Trouble Shooting

Here is a list of potential problems along with their solutions:

Problem

Solution(s)

No LiveSky menu in Starry Night

You must have Starry Night 2.1 or greater for LiveSky to work.

The LiveSky Plug-in must be located in the Plug-ins folder which itself is located in the Starry Night Data folder.

When selecting an object and trying to go to the LiveSky bookmark nothing happens

Make sure you have your web browser set up using Internet Config system as outlined above.

When Starry Night is starting up, it fails to remember all of the bookmarks that were put in during previous sessions.

LiveSky stores the bookmarks and notes in a file called "Personal Bookmarks" In the Sienna folder in the System Folder's Preferences folder. There should also be a file called "Personal Bookmarks.bak" in there.

Try moving "Personal Bookmarks" out and renaming "Personal Bookmarks.bak" to "Personal Bookmarks". Note: If you are in the habit of making large numbers of bookmarks and notes you should always keep your Personal Bookmarks file backed up.
